rlialCISM of members of the Road

Haulage Association who objected to applications "by signing on the dotted line" was made by the Western Licensing Authority last week. Ten objectors, besides the Railway and Road Haulage Executives. were listed to be called against an application by Messrs. H. J. Williams and Son, Eppfield, Copplestone, for an additional vehicle to carry livestock within a 35mile radius.

One of these objectors, Mr. W. A. Ellis, Broad Clyst, said that it was usual for R.H.A. members to get together and ask how many objected to a particular application. That was how the opposition grew.

The Authority: "I am glad to know that, because this list of objectors is, in fact, one member. One member of the whole group objects, and the others just sign on the dotted line."

He asked the objectors' representatives: "Are you going to call all the objectors who sign on the dotted line? I should like to see the genuine objector who initiated this objection." I4e was told that this person had already given evidence.

The application was granted.
