Norman E. .1-1 Potts, a leading machine-tool dealer, of Birmingham, certain manufacturers of machine tools are buying Government surplus :,tock and hoarding it, although new machines cannot be delivered for two years.

He said that one big machine-tool manufacturer had in store 750 Government surplus machines worth nearly £1,000,000. They were of a type for which there was a big demand, but no offers for their purchase would be accepted.

Mr. Potts declared that the Government must -itself bear a heavy part of the blame for this situation. In allowing manufacturers to purchase in bulk redundant machines of their own manufacture or for which they were agents, the Ministry of Supply overruled a decision of the Machine Tool Disposals Advisory Panel, on which were represented manufacturers, merchants and Government officials.

Mr. Potts stated that Mr. F. K. Jenkins, Director-General of Disposals of the Ministry of Supply, had said that the Board of Trade was pressing strongly for the release of as much storage space as possible.
