THE THREAT OF strike action by oil tanker drivers who deliver to Tesco has receded following concessions from both sides.
But the Transport & General Workers Union says TDG, which took over the contract in southern England from Wincanton on Monday (6 February), still needs to give more ground. Ron Webb.T&G national road transport secretary. is fighting to protect final-salary pensions following the contract transfer.
The 140 drivers had threatened a two-day strike last month because TDG was not prepared to take on employees based at Purfleet under the TUPE regulations, which protect terms and condi
tions when contracts change hands (CM 19 January).
Webb says Wincanton has now agreed to retain the 70 drivers affected.
