• A former director of two failed transport companies has been given the go-ahead to run his new business.

North Western LA Martin Albu has granted an international licence for seven vehicles and eight trailers to Mark Currie, a former director of Manchester-based Currie Contracts and Coventry-based Track 29 Express Systems. His latest venture is Manchester-based CLDS. However, Albu said he wanted to see CLDS's first-year accounts when they become available. He dismissed concerns over Currie's repute and financial standing, saying the liquidator had said it was doubtful if Currie could have predicted the collapse of Currie Contracts. CLDS has been operating successfully on an interim licence, Currie Contracts and Track 29, which was described as a parcels distribution co-operative, both went into receivership last autumn. Currie was a director of Currie Contracts and a non-executive director of Track 29, Currie said that he had not been warned about the financial state of Track 29 and that its collapse had cost him around £60,000. That, and another large debt, had caused the problems at Currie Contracts. He said when he had applied to CLDS's licence there had been no suggestion that either of the other companies would not continue to trade,
