CARGOFAX, the electronic load matching and information service, has secured an estimated 1.5m to 2m extra tonnes of traffic for hauliers using the system.

It has come to an agreement with the National Farmers' Union which means that within six weeks, 1,500 NFU members will be switched into the system for hauliers to move loads from grain to machinery throughout Britain.

Cargofax International director Simon Hossack said that this development would lead to each NFU user bringing 1,000 tonnes plus a year to hauliers who subscribe to Cargofax. He also said: "We are talking to several other trade associations and hope we will hear some more news in the next six weeks."

He continued: "It's in everybody's interest. Hauliers are screaming out for loads and NFU members get their stuff moved for return load rates." Hauliers can use it most usefully for securing spot backloads, he said.

This drive for expansion follows Reed Telepublishing, an associate of CM's publisher, taking over Cargofax from the Road Haulage Association.
