Your correspondence course could be international

AN alternative to the courses described last week is the series of courses offered by International Correspondence Schools, Intertext House, Stewarts Road, London SW8 4UJ.

Although the Chartered Institute of Transport and the Industrial Transport Association are mentioned in the organization's brochure, these are now one and have been for some months. Only the course leading to the Intermediate examination of the CIT is at present offered at a cost of £52. Alternatively, an instalment scheme is available.

A student can elect to pay three equal instalments at a total cost of £55 or pay £6 on enrolment and £4 a month at a total cost of £61.

The School does not operate a course which includes preparation for membership of the Institute of Traffic Administration.

Unlike the courses detailed last week, however, it does offer a number of technical courses which might be of interest to the aspiring road transport manager.

These include instruction on basic and high-speed diesel engines, basic motor engineering, and motor running and maintenance.

The prices of these courses range from £19 to £66 but, once again, instalment schemes are available.

There are no extra books to buy according to the brochure. Where textbooks are necessary, these accompany the lessons and test papers.

A study programme is provided showing the composition of the course, the number of instruction manuals and textbooks which must be studied and what lessons are contained in the course. A personal tutor is appointed who will undertake to answer any supplementary questions.

Again, the student is encouraged to work at his own pace answering the test papers at the end of mastering each lesson and sending them to the School for correction.

An added attraction, perhaps, if the student is unwilling or unable to enter for the formal examinations set by a professional body is the Diploma or Certificate which the organization issues to the student who, in its opinion, has successfully completed one of its courses.
