F. Collins has been appointed as director and general manager of Morton's (BRS) Ltd and will be based at No. 2 Depot, Rowley Road, Coventry, announces the British Road Services Group. Mr Collins, who has more than 40 years' experience in the motor and transport industries started his career with the Austin Motor Company in 1930.
John R. Elliott, previously the transport adviser to the Alcan group, has joined the central transport department of the Metal Box Co Ltd as its deputy head. Mr Elliott was president of the Freight Transport Association, 1970-72.
Ken Sharratt has been appointed director of commercial vehicle sales for British Car Auctions. Mr Sharratt was formerly branch director of the RCA's auction centre at Measham, Burton-on-Trent.
D. A. Smith, 55, has been promoted area traffic superintendent (east) of Eastern Counties Omnibus Co Ltd and is succeeded as Norwich district traffic superintendent by R. Wales. Helmut • Heckmann has been appointed factory delegate (commercial vehicles) to Great Britain by Daimler-Benz AG.
M. J. Furlong, sales manager for commercial vehicles for the Reliance Garage group of Norwich, has been appointed sales director of the group's newly formed Reliance Trucks, Heigham Street, Commer and Dodge distributor for Norfolk.
Keith Holmes, Geoffrey C. Smith and Leonard Wailer, National Bus Company general managers of subsidiary stage carriage companies, become chief general managers from March 1. Mr Waller (Midland General Omnibus Co Ltd, Trent Motor Traction Co Ltd) takes company responsibilities for those companies and East Midland Motor Services Ltd, Mansfield District Traction Co Ltd. and United Counties Omnibus Co Ltd, Mr Smith (Brighton Hove and District Omnibus Co Ltd, Southdown Motor Services Ltd) takes responsibility for those companies and Southern Vectis Omnibus Co Ltd. Mr Holmes (Red and White Services Ltd, Western Welsh Omnibus Co Ltd) takes those companies and Jones Omnibus Services Ltd, Rhondda Transport Co Ltd, and South Wales Transport Co Ltd and associated companies.
Patrick Muirhead Thomas, chairman of the Scottish Transport Group since 1968, will receive the honours degree of LL.D. at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, in April. A Member of Court at the University since 1967, he is a noted Scottish industrialist who has held several directorships and been closely associated with many Scottish institutions. David J. Neville Taylor, 42, becomes deputy director of information at the Department of the Environment after two years as chief information officer.
George Lines, 34. has been appointed to the board of Davies Turner and Co Ltd. the international freight forwarders. He joined them six years ago as chief accountant. As company secretary, he switched Davies Turner to computerized accounting. and is now looking after management information services and monthly budget reports for every branch.
M. J. Colson, 52, Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (GB) Ltd general manager of the remould division, has additionally been appointed sales manager, tyre replacement division.
David J. Osborne, 24, has been appointed assistant secretary/accountant of the Trent Motor Traction Co Ltd in succession to David Dickinson who is now secretary /accountath of East Midland Motor Services Ltd.
