Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An indispensable reference book for own-account transport operators—that is the TRTA 1968 Yearbook. Members receive copies free and bona fide road transport students can also obtain copies, at £1, from the TRTA: 1-11 Hay Hill, London, Wl.

Now in its fifth edition, the Yearbook has successively become more comprehensive and valuable. And the 1968 edition has been brought up to date with regard to the law as at December 11967.

The year 1968 will undoubtedly be difficult for most operators because of fundamental changes proposed in legislation. For the same reason it is a difficult year for compilers of reference books because provision has to be made both for existing legislation and that which is scheduled or anticipated during the book's currency.

The TRTA Yearbook accomplishes this difficult task successfully. The new braking regulations in force are given in layman's language as are the plating and testing regulations due to be introduced in July.

Even the proposals contained in the Transport Bill now before Parliament are examined in a three-page section. But obviously with the details still to be finalized the attention of operators is drawn to amendments and changes—they will be recorded in the Association's monthly publication which will contain a page cross-reference to the Yearbook.

While admittedly 1968 is a particularly difficult year as regards changes in legislation, it would be optimistic to assume that any sort of finality had been reached. That being so a possible improvement for future yearbooks would be to consider the advantages of a loose-leaf edition to ensure members have an up-to-date reference book to hand at all times.
