• Every Saturday from now until March 16, hauliers belonging to the North Staffs Action Group are running at least one of their lorries in their own local area carrying placards of protest against the effects of the Transport Bill. The scheme was started by Coopers Road Services, and this Saturday publicity will culminate in a mass protest parade and meeting in the Potteries on March 16.
Mr. A. R. Butt, former RHA chairman, and Mr. Jackson Moore, national secretary of the United Road Transport Union will be attending the mass protest meeting; Sir Donald Stokes was unable to accept the invitation but is reported to have sent his assurance of support in the campaign.
• The RHA has told the Ministry of Transport that it agrees in general with the draft regulations for plating and testing of goods vehicles—but it has one particular reservation: It cannot support the proposal that, when tested, vehicles should have to meet the braking efficiencies at the design weight rather than the current legal maximum.
