Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANYONE who buys a movingfloor trailer to transport waste, and looks after it,should enjoy strong residual values because that type of trailer represents the future, according to Andrew Smith, MD of Harlington, Bedfordshire trailer dealership Newton Commercials.

"The waste industry is fleeing from tipper trailers, and moving away from ejection trailers too," he reports. "I reckon the tipper trailer market, which is already over-supplied, will decline over the next five years."

Smith believes the used tipper trailer market has now weathered the switch to 44 tonnes, with hauliers at last understanding that they will not get the money they once expected for tipper trailers that cannot be used for topweight work. "They're prepared to be realistic about their value," he says."That certainly wasn't the case two years ago."

He also detects a new mood of realism about disc brakes. Far from wanting to move back to drums, the more perceptive operators are instead carefully identifying the most reliable disc brake systems and buying their used trailers accordingly.

-They're being very choosy, and marking down the value of anything equipped with a system that's known to cause problems," Smith explains. "Some trailers with discs and axles that aren't up to the job are now virtually unsaleable."
