The latest incarnation of the Volkswagen Caddy makes an impressive debut at Manheim Auctions.

The Caddy TDI was launched last year and the first used example appeared at the Coventry site where it sold for £10,000 — that's a 94.7% return on its list price.Tune and supply and demand will produce its standard and more market friendly residual tag over the next 18 months or so, but its first sale on the used market has pleased the German manufacturers.

Andy Bateman, used vehicle manager for Volkswagen's commercial vehicles, says the company has had a successful 18 months:"We have a great network, great new product with more on the way and this used entry just adds to our reputation as a brand with strong, reliable residual values."

Other Caddys up for grabs, like the SDI,made 88.6% of list price at Coventry; the overall conversion rate reached 90%.

ManheimAuction's CV sales director Alex Wright adds that the Caddy auction was VW's second major foray into the used market over the past six months:"The T5 Transporter exceeded all expectations in the spring and the Caddy proved to be no exception."
