Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT is announced by William Hurlock, Junr., Ltd., 55, Effra Road, London, the well-known purchaser of Government motor vehicles, which it reconditions before sale, that it is equipping reconditioned A.E.C. chassis of the YEW type with Gardner 4LW oil engines. Other makes of chassis may be similarly equipped.

The chassis, which are mostly in good condition before being stripped, are rebuilt, with practically all now gears in the gearbox, a completely reconditioned final-drive unit of either 8.25 to 1 or 7.25 to 1 ratio, new extraheavy front and rear springs, new hubs and wheels carrying 40-in. by 8-in. (twin rear) new tyres of well-known. make, such as Pirelli, spare wheel, tyre and carrier, reconditioned rear-wheel brakes, and new electrical equipment, comprising dynamo, battery, five lamps and horn. The reconditioned vehicle has also a new body and wings, and a new cab with sloping front and threepiece wood-framed screen, the machine being painted, lined and varnished.

A special sub-frame is built to carry the Gardner engine, and is worthy of note, being simple and robust; four special feet, the front ones having spring-loaded bolts, are inide to fit the engine, which has a flywheel supplied by the Gardner concern to suit this particular make and model of chassis.

The original clutch (reconditioned) is employed, a special spigot being made to suit the flywheel. The original radiator is fitted, but no fan is necessary, and part of the radiator is covered by an adjustable screen.

The engine, as our readers are aware, starts easily by hand, there being two compression controls on the dumbirons. The one on the right decompresses the rear two cylinders, whilst the one on the left has three positions governing the front two cylinders, these being decompression, maximum compression and normal. The main fuel tank beneath the driver's seat has a capacity of 26-30 gallons, and a 12-gallon gravity tank is fitted on the dash and is supplied by a semi-rotary pump in the cab.

The standard body length on a chassis of 14-ft. 5-in, wheelbase is 13 ft. 6 ins., the width being 7 ft. 6 ins. It will be appreciated that, for a comparatively low price, purchasers are able to obtain a vehicle backed by good names and reputations.
