Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Financial Position of Salford's Undertaking.

In order to meet the present financial situation, it is proposed that certain adjustments should be made in connection with Salford Corporation's bus stages and fares.

it is stated that, since 1928, the annual revenue has decreased from £495,000 to 1365,000, which is attributed chiefly to the fact that, in most cases, the tram and bus fares are equal, resulting in the trams being neglected by the public. Since April 1 last the tramway revenue has decreased by £18,700, but the increase in the bus receipts has reduced the fall in revenue to £13,130 to date. The total loss on the entire undertaking for the six months ended September 30 last was 19,000.

The increase in the price of petrol represents an addition of £9,500 to the operating costs, whilst a further rise of 2d, would make the increased cost £15,750. The adoption of the Salter Report would result in that figure being doubled. The situation is attributed. to competition between the buses and trams, industrial depression and the increase in the price of petrol. The city council was to consider the proposals this week.
