Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Sunday bans would bring us in line with Europe

DESPITE ALL the uproar in the haulage industry about Sunday driving bans – banning trucks from motorways on Sundays is just ridiculous – but banning all except those carrying perishables is an idea worth considering.

The majority of British trucks are parked up on a Sunday in any case, and most of those that are working on that day are carrying perishables for supermarkets.

This could bring us in line with the rest of Europe, making foreign vehicles park up instead of using Sundays as a way of getting to Monday morning’s pick up. We keep being told by politicians that we should integrate more with Europe, which tries to force items such as trailer heights, digital tachos, driver CPC, etc, on us.

Let’s integrate with Europe, but only if we can have the good things too – like integration on fuel duty, road tax, higher wages for drivers, and road tolls – so we can compete on a more level playing ield.

Britain seems to get the worst of both European and British law, driving what was once a good industry down the drain.
