Forty cases of wine were damaged when a lorry shed its load two days before Christmas. British Road Services admitted having an insecure load and was fined £150 by Gateshead, Tyne and Wear magistrates.
The court was told the load slipped as the lorry negotiated a roundabout at the south side of Redheugh Bridge, Gateshead.
David Mitford, representing the firm, said BRS was probably the largest road haulier in the country, "Mere were 40 cases of wine damaged and there must have been a lot of people disappointed because it was two days before Christmas," he said.
The load was on European palletts, smaller than the British. The result is that when loaded onto a British lorry, they leave a certain amount of space.
