Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I am writing on behalf Spectronics Micro Systems Ltd to commend you on the article on radioprinters (CM, July 12).

We are very pleased to be involved with DIM on this project and as you mentioned we have supplied equipment for use by the AA. Unfortunately, due to other factors which have nothing to do with our company, the AA system is not yet operational. When it is I'm sure that it will be worth featuring in your magazine.

My other reason for writing is to ask you to correct misleading information published in the same issue under the heading 'Technology'. I refer to the paragraph on the Dowty Printer. The comparison with our radio printer is very misleading. While it is correct that the S330 printer being used by DHL in London doesn't provide facilities for the driver to send information back to the control, that is not the case with the S340 the AA have purchased.

The S340 Mobile Data Terminal is a much more sophisticated and powerful terminal than the Australian Autoprint. As well as a printer it incorporates a sixteen-key sealed keypad which is used by the driver to send status and jobrelated information back to a command and control system due to go operational at the end of this year in Stanmore.

In addition to the two-way communication features of the S340 all SMS Mobile Data Systems use a powerful forward-error correction system which dramatically reduces the need for re-trys.

The S340 MDT is also being used by DHL International as part of a pilot scheme in the Middle East.
