AA RESTRUCTURING • A further stage in the long-term restructuring of the Automobile Association's nationwide Breakdown and Information Centres has been announced.

By September 1987 the Breakdown and Information Centre in Guildford will be closed, along with those in Reading and Southampton, to be replaced by a purpose-built centre at Thatcham, near Newbury, Berks.

SOS calls by AA members will not be affected by the closures. They will merely be redirected from Guildford to Thatcham, from where Guildford and Surrey-based patrols will continue to be deployed.

The AA reports that this is a 'behind the scenes' change affecting only the departments dealing with breakdowns. The member Service outlet in Guildford; the road service centres at Leatherhead and Esherand patrols will not be affected.

By investing in modern communication equipment and computer technology the AA is moving towards fewer but larger centres capable of handling the projected breakdown volumes of the 1990s.
