Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new minibus conversion based on a Ford Transit 160 panel van was among the exhibits at the mini motor show held by Macclesfield-based bodybuilders Steedrive last week.

The latest non-factory converted Transit mini can be built as a 15 seat minibus or 17 seat crew bus depending on customer requirements. According to Steedrive the conversion is comparable to Ford's own factory-built model, but up to £1,000 cheaper for a similar specification.

Other conversions on show included non-PSV and welfare conversions based on Renault Master, Talbot Express and Ford Transit vans. The only PSV minibus on show was a 12 seater based on a Bedford CF2 280.

Steedrive is waiting for the expected revised minibus construction and use regulations requirements to be confirmed and put into force before making any major effort in the PSV sector.

However, it is able to convert most panel vans currently on the market with the exception of the Bedford Midi and other similarly-sized forward control Japanese vans which it considers unsuitable for most of its conversion roles.

Steedrive is also a front runner in the current trend to wards using panel van conversions as front line ambulances rather than complete coachbuilt vehicles.

Several examples of these, including a Talbot Express for Gwent Ambulance Service. a Renault Master for Wiltshire and a Volkswagen LT31 for Warwickshire were displayed at its show.

Renault UK had a successful Ambex Ambulance show this year (CM. June 21). According to light commercial general manager Ray Thompson, orders have been placed for 242 front-line and welfare models based on the Master van, worth a total of £1.5 million.
