AA CONTRACT switch involving 13 vehicles (841 tons) was considered before the North Western deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. A. H. Joliffe, at Manchester on Wednesday. After an all-day hearing the application was adjourned. Walsh Transport (Bolton) Ltd. wanted a B licence for these units and wished to surrender contract licences with Thrutchley and Co. Ltd. and W. and J. Turnerā€¢Ltd. in respect of them.

Mrs. A. Walsh, secretary of the company, said that the conditions sought were " Solid fuel and road-making materials within 80 miles of base." The two contract customers belonged to the Cawood Wharton group of companies and as most of their activities were co-ordinated they desired their vehicles to be interchangeable between the two organizations.

Mr. Joliffe gave the applicants the opportunity of seeing a report concerning the maintenance of their fleet which had been sent to his office.

The application, was opposed by British Railways and several independent road operators.
