Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the SMMT regarding the Commercial Vehicle Show, I felt it important to write to our fellow exhibitors (of both the CV and IRTE shows). The SMMT's letter makes it sound as if everyone is delighted with the show, yet conversations with colleagues in the trade suggest this is not necessarily true.

Eighteen months ago there was a move to amalgamate the industry's two main shows: the IRTE and the CV & Bodywork Show.

This was welcomed by many exhibitors because of the costs involved in exhibiting at two shows so close to each other on the calendar.

However, while it was discussed, nothing further seems to have come of it.

Despite the recent letter from the SMMT, I believe there is growing discontent among exhibitors. The largest exhibition, the Telford-based IRTE, is not without its shortcomings: space is limited and the weather can be a problem for those forced to exhibit outside. As for the location itself, Telford is not the most convenient place to travel to, particularly for overseas visitors.

On the other hand, the CV & Bodywork Show, which started life in Kenilworth, has grown and moved to the more convenient NEC. However, this show has a diluting effect on the established Telford show, particularly with its new dates (2325 March 1999) being so close to the IRTE.

If this situation is to change I believe it is us, as exhibitors, who must help to bring it about. Consequently, I would very much like your readers' thoughts on the UK exhibition issue. In order to gauge opinion I have prepared a short questionnaire (see below).

Only when we have a good measure of opinion can we make a representation to the exhibition organisers to address the problem. Richard Gibbs, Managing director, BPW, Leicester For a copy of Mr Gibb's questionnaire phone BPW on 0116 281 6100, fax 0116 281 6140—Ed.
