Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

in Dave Lee's letter regarding us "sad, sick people" (CM 26 March-1 April).

Does the Econofreight driver regard his own mates in the same light? I have met many heavy haulage drivers and crew who are also trucking enthusiasts.

Like Dave Lee, I have held an interest in road haulage all my life but I am neither sad nor sick. My interest in trucks has taken me to many parts of the world and I would say that "enthusiast bashing" seems to be a British disease.

Having recently returned from a "truck shoot" in New Zealand I must say that operators and drivers there are so much more helpful and they clearly take great pride in their trucks.

Heaven knows, the UK transport industry needs all the public support it can get, so it's a shame when some people in it see fit to deride us enthusiasts. After all, we must be the only section of society to hold the industry in high esteem.

Peter Davies, Flitwick, Bedford.
