Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Those of you who read this page last month will remember the reference to the recent General Assembly in Switzerland. Such conferences are only really useful if the talking (and there was lots that in many different languages!) actually leads to action.

One of the themes that ran through the entire proceedings was the problem of customs delays. I am pleased to say that Jean-Claude Pechin, UICR secretary-general, was elected to lobby nearly every French authority dealing with customs matters. He has since set himself an action programme to represent all of our comrades on this subject. We have chosen, as examples, two specific locations of concern.

Thanks to the French Minister of Transport, M Pechin has received the following assurances from the General Inspector of Customs at Mondane (Franco-Italian border): everything will be dor to facilitate the customs proce — passing through should take no longer than three minutes, customs clearance formalities should be completed in 20 minutes, provided the paperwork is in order. Health formalities are to be improved by the end of April.

Another concern is the use o. the Frejus Tunnel running between Mondane and Bardonecchia. The French authorities have been asked to re-examine their policy concerning dangerous loads passing through this tunnel. More action like this will follow
