A RESTRICTION is to be im posed on the minimum grounc clearance of lorries to avoid thc risk of grounding at level-cross ings, says the Department a Transport.
British Rail is applying a stan dard road profile to all its level crossings and has asked the D-4 to ensure that vehicle grounc clearance will meet this profile.
If the distance between the kingpin and the centre of the bo gie is between 6.0 and 11 .5rr (19ft 8in and 37ft 8in) then the ground clearance must not be less than 160mm (6.3in).
If this dimension exceed: 11.5m then the minimury ground clearance is 19Orney (7.5in).
