AS reliability in transport is No 1 priority for smash-and-grab raiders, Peter Butler, managing director of U Drive Rental, of Bromley, should be flattered that thieves chose one of his 3-ton vans for a big robbery. Four men wearing Mickey Mouse masks and carrying baseball bats used it for a theft reported to be worth more than £200,000.
Peter was more than surprised when he saw the vehicle on the ITV Police Five programme in which Shaw Taylor was appealing for information from anyone who had seen it at about the time of the raid. While accepting the implied compliment, Peter hopes his company's reputation for reliability will not encourage other gangs to borrow his vehicles.
