Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN YOUR MARCH 12 issue Andy Robertson is on his cowboy horse again. The farmers on the F licence, the clearing houses and the shipping agents, and, believe it or not, the RHA operators, all cut rates.

The customers who play one against the other do not turn around vehicles in a reasonable time are all guilty of making road haulage the thing it is.

I am an owner-driver, no better or worse than any other, just trying to make a living with my 10-year-old F88 that's paid for, and I have two lorries parked up (The Rochdale Cowboy and The Flyer) because I was undercut by an RHA member by 28 per cent. If it is true that it is the owner-driver and no other that is guilty of the undercutting, then I would like to have a new pair of spurs; my old ones are rusty because I have not worked for an RHA firm for over 10 years.

R. J. SQUIRE Squire Transport (part of the RUP Group) Barnstaple, Devon.

Mike Rutherford writes: Mr Robertson is as concerned about the farmers as you are. He also admits that the RHA is far from perfect. — Editor.
