Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE SIDEGUARD regulations due to come into force on May 1 have been amended to cover the difficulties encountered by trombone trailers and skeletals carrying demountable bodies or containers.

The original wording of the sideguard requirement implied that the sideguard had to extend with the trailer.

The Department of Transport now states that the sideguard must comply only in the closed up position and that it may be installed alongside at the front or the rear when the trailer is extended.

In demount applications, the presence of twistlocks on the skeletal chassis was likely to cause fouling if the top of the sideguard had to be level with the top of the chassis.

This has been amended with the height of the top of the guard being set at 300mm (11.8in) below the top of the chassis.
