Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Tropical Works, 145 Sterte Road, Poole, Dorset.

DIRECT-FIRED and vented units are included in the Boscombe Tropical range of portable and mobile space heaters, the vented type having a stainless-steel heat exchanger from which the products of combustion are exhausted via a flue. Suspended space heaters in the range are also produced in direct and vented versions. The range comprises 10 models with two variations, apart from oil-fired cabinet air heaters.

The four models in the direct-fired range have capacities from 50,000 Btu Ihr to 300,000 Btu /hr, two of the units having a low-pressure fuel system and a compressor that replaces the fuel pump. Two models are high-pressure units incorporating a highpressure fuel pump. Features of two of the models include a photo-electric automatic shut-down control (which operates in the event of fuel or ignition failure) thermal overload protection for the motor and an automatic cooling cycle whereby the machine continues to operate on cold air after it has been switched off until all residual heat has been dispersed. Provision is made for a thermostat, time switch and alarm bell.

Heat outputs vary between 50,000 Btu /hr and 300,000 Btu /hr, nominal air outputs between 200 cu ft/min and 1800 cu ft/min and fuel consumptions are from 0.312 gal /hr (imperial) to 2.25 gal /hr (US).

Of the two vented types of portable heaters one model has a heat output of 112,000 Btu /hr and the other an output of 208,000 Btu /hr, while the corresponding fuel consumptions are 1 gal /fir (US) and 1.9 gal /hr (US/. Nominal air movements are 1000 cu ft/min and 2000 cu ft/min respectively.

The heat outputs of the two vented types of suspended units are 112,000 Btu /hr and 208,000 Btu /hr while consumptions are 1 gal /hr (US) and 1.9 gal /hr (US), nominal air movements being 1000 cu ft/min and 2000 cu ft/min. Heat outputs of the two directfired suspended models are 160,000 Btu/Fir and 300,000 Btu /hr, the smaller model having a fuel consumption of 1.25 gal /hr (US) and the larger unit a consumption of 2.25 gal/hr. Corresponding air movements are 900 Cu ft /min and 1800 cu ft /min.

The cabinet air heaters have outputs of 100,000 Btu /hr and 250,000 Btu /hr, the corresponding fan outputs being 1080 cu ft/min and 3200 cu ft/min. Fuel consumptions are 7.5 lb /hr and 17.2 lb /hr, while the temperature rise is 85deg F (48deg C) in each case.
