Carmichael as marketing and sales director of P. M. G. Thorpe Ltd. Mr Carmichael was previously for 15 years with the Automotive Products Group.

John Ireland, 32, has left Crane Fruehauf to join Pitt Trailers Ltd as northern divisional manager. He will be responsible with three area managers, for the area north of a line from Barmouth to Hull up to the Scottish border. Robin Frank Ascott has been appointed area accountant, London area, BRS Parcels Ltd. Mr Ascott was previously chief accountant, Haddon Engineering Co Ltd (Haddon Transformers Ltd).

Russell Barker has been promoted Wingard Ltd director of sales, accessories, and Peter Worledge director of sales, safety equipment. Obituary

We record with regret the death of George Thomas Gains.

Mr Gains, who had retired, was one of the original partners in the South London firm of hauliers,A. E. Gains and Sons, of Westminster and Vauxhall.
