QEEN in an accompanying photograph is the first Minitran semi-trailer, a ne development by Highland Engineering Ltd., of Edinburgh. It is constructed 4 patented panels in aluminium alloy which interlock to form sides and roof and whic in a standard width but a variety of lengths, can be employed to produce semi-trait vans of capacities up to 2,000 Cu. ft.
As well as complete vans, Highland Engineering is offering kits which, says tl company, require only simple hand tools for their assembly into semi-trailers.
An assembled Minitran semi-trailer of 1,000 cu. ft., together with a typical prin mover (for instance, a Ford 15 cwt. chassis-cab with high-compression engine) cot only about £1,000 complete, including vacuum trailer brakes; road fund taxes a low, too, as the 1,000 cu. ft. trailer weighs only about 8 cwt. In do-it-yourself I form the trailer is cheaper, so that the whole outfit would probably cost about £90 These semi-trailer vans are designed for bulky, low-weight loads, the paylo capacity of the 1,000 Cu. ft. Minitran being rated at 37 cwt., for example. Suspensii is all-independent, incorporating Flexitor units. The example illustrated has fo wheels with 5.20-10 tyre equipment.
The first six Minitrans are going to Clyde Hover Ferries Ltd. for use as mob passenger shelters on Scotland's first Hovercraft service.
