Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A TANKER driver, 39-year-old Mr. i""t Charles F. Hayes, was presented with a Royal Humane Society testimonial on parchment by the Mayor of Kings Lynn on Monday for his attempt to rescue a man buried by fallen shale from a slag heap.

Before the presentation to Mr. Hayes, of Kings Lynn, police superintendent Fred Calvert said that although the rescue bid did not result in the saving of a life it was not through lack of effort or courage on the part of the rescuer.

B12 Hayes made the attempt in Goole (Yorks) in August last year, when Barrie Haigh, an 18-year-old farm labourer, was helping to fill a trailer with shale at the bottom of a 40 ft. heap of slag. The slag started to fall and Haigh was trapped.

Hayes will also receive an award from his employers, Harold Wood and Sons Ltd.

The RI-IS award was the second earned by Charles Hayes: the first was given in 1946 when he saved a mart from the Thames at Purfleet.
