Included in the officers recently elected for the ensuing year at the a.g.m. of the Kendal sub-area of the Northern area of the Road Haulage Association were: Mr. A. E. Nelson (Barnes and Nelson), chairman, and Mr. G. B. Burrow (G. B. Burrow and Son), vice-chairman.

Mr. A. T. K. Barnes has been appointed a director of the London subsidiaries of Atkinson Lorries (Holdings) Ltd.— Atkinson Vehicles (London) Ltd., The Nightingale Engineering Co. Ltd. and Coach Bodies Ltd.

Mr. A. N. Cole has been appointed to the board of Rootes Motors Ltd. in succession to Mr. R. C. Mitchell, who has resigned. Mr. Stanley Markland has joined the hoard of Jonas Woodhead and Sons and becomes deputy chairman. Mr. Michael Moore has resigned as a director. Mr. Markland was at one time deputy managing director of Leyland Motors Ltd. and managing director of StandardTriumph International.

Mr. J. U. Cooke has been appointed sales director of Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd.

At the a.g.m. of the South Wales division of the Traders Road Transport Association this week, Mr. J. R. Elliott (Alcan Industries Ltd.) was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Vice-chairmen elected were Mr. J. Graves (Aberthaw Cement Co. Ltd.) and Mr. J. I. Plenty (Hoover Ltd.).

Mr. A. C Swindle has been appointed to the board of Standard-Triumph International Ltd. Mr. Swindle, who is 50, joined the Standard Motor company in 1938.

Styla Accessories of Birmingham have • appointed two further representatives to cover the London area, and adjacent counties—Mr. L. Mullender and Mr. M. Kaye.

Mr. A. F. R. Carling has been appointed a director of Western Welsh Omnibus Co. Ltd., and has been elected chairman of the company in succession to Mr. E. L. Taylor, who has resigned from the board in view of his impending retirement.

Mr. V. G. Baker has been appointed a director of Dennis Bros. of Guildford.

With the introduction of the new Continental Service by Anglo-Continental Container Services (London) Ltd. and (Belfast) Ltd., the following appointments have now become effective: Mr. A. F. Lawson (formerly Leicester office manager) is now commercial manager—Continental Service. Mr. J. A. Colton (formerly manager of the London depot) has taken on additional responsibility is operations manager—Continental Service. Mr. A. G. Lees (formerly Scottish representative) is now manager of the Leicester office.

Mr. J. F. Coe, transport manager of Stanton and Staveley Ltd., near Nottingham, has been elected a member of the East Midlands economic planning council recently set up by the Government as part of its regional planning programme. Mr. Coe has been a member of the Traders Road Transport Association East Midlands divisional committee for several years.

Mr. W. T. Charles has been re-elected president of the Institute of the Motor Industry for 1965-6. This will be his third term of office. Vice-presidents elected were: Sir Edward Beharrell, Sir William Black, Sir William Lyons, Sir Reginald Rootes, Sir Miles Thomas, Sir Rowland Smith, Lord Kenilworth, Lord Lambury, Hon. Gerald Lascelles, Mr. L. G. T. Farmer and Mr. William Swallow.

Mr. T. Hannaway, formerly sales manager of Anthony Hoists Ltd., has been appointed sales director.
