MR. B. J. HEGARTY, who is in charge of North American sales of the Austin Motor Co., Ltd.; MR. E. BAILEY, machine shop superintendent; MR. J. R. EDWARDS, production manager, and MR. J. Rix, technical manager, left England for New York on Wednesday in the "Queen Elizabeth."
MR. T. V. REDSTON, managing director of Servis Recorders, Ltd., will travel to America on April 15 on s.s. "Queen Mary," the object being to extend the export trade of his company. He will be accompanied by his son, MR. R. REDSTON, who Will spend some weeks in an American instrument factory to become conversant with production methods in that country.
MR. W. C. BOLTON, London district road-motor engineer of British Railways, Western Region, retired last Monday. He joined the Great Western Railway in 1904 and drove the first double-deck bus which ran between Penzance, Marazion and Newlyn. At that time the company had four motor vehicles, whereas the Western Region has more than 8,000. Mr. Bolton's first experience in motoring was gained in 1902 with a steam car. In the winter of 1907-8 he drove a double-deck bus from London to Inverness. In 1921 he became engineer in charge of all the commercial motor vehicles in the G.W.R. London district. He was one of the first members of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. F, SEDGwrcic has been appointed a director of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd.
MR. T. W. ROYLE and Ma. C. H. SUTHERLAND have been appointed directors of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd. MR, G. L. DARRYSIIIRE has resigned.
MR. T. G. DAviEs, traffic manager of the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., has been appointed general manager of the Rhondda Transport Co., Ltd. He will replace Ma. T. 0. RicHAansoN, who, as i'ready reported in "The Commercial Motor," is to retire.
MAJOR W. GREGSON, M.Sc., MIMEO-I.E., is the new president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. His apprenticeship was served at North Blaina, followed by experience at sea and in various other branches of mechanical engineering. He served with the Royal Engineers in the 1914-18 war. He is manager of the marine department of Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., and managing director or technical director of other Babcock subsidiaries., He became a vice-president of the Institution in 1943.
TO SHOW "ATOMIC PHYSICS" FILM
N exceptionally interesting film, "Atomic Physics," produced by 0.-B. Instructional, Ltd., will be shown privately by the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, at the Royal Society of Arts, on April 15.
Dr. F. C. Champion, of King's College, a member of the Atomic Scientists' Association, will attend. There will be many other prominent guests, including Mr. L. J. Callaghan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport; Mr. J. Brebner, chief public relations officer, British Transport Commission; Mr. G. Dodson Wells, public relations officer, London Transport Executive; Mr. A. L. Collis, chief engineer, Scotland Yard; presidents of technical institutions, principals of technical colleges and executives in the industry. The film will also be shown at 6.30 p.m. for members of the Institute only.
MORE APPEALS NEXT WEEK
THREE groups of appeals have been listed for hearing at Halifax House, Strand, London, W.C.2, next week. On April 14, the Appeal Tribunal will hear the appeals of W. F. Marshall and two others against the grant of a licence to Holmes and Smith, Ltd., by the Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority, and of Bamber and Berry, Ltd., against a decision of the Deputy North Western Licensing Authority.
On April 15, the parnharn Transport Co., Ltd., and the Railway Executive will appeal against the grant of a licence to C. and E. Russell, Ltd., by the South Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority.
