FURTHER FODEN aficionados are to be found at Peter W McLaren. When it came to adding to the fleet several factors had to considered before any commitment was made. Firstly, the drivers wanted something spacious and accommodating. The fuel consumption had to be competitive and finally, it had to be reliable.

Powered by CAT C12 diesels rated at 450hp the Fodens have a four-year working life covering around 130,000km per year pulling tipping trailers on short return journeys within a 70-mile radius of Kincardine in Central Scotland. The company mainly hauls coal from local mines to power stations, as well as sand gravel and aggregate from local quarries to manufacturing plants.

Owner Peter McLaren had plenty of praise for these stout tractors. "As an operator I have found that the Foden Alpha was extremely good on fuel consumption and proven to be reliable in service under our arduous daily operating conditions," he says.
