• Trans-Action, the group of hauliers protesting against fuel duty rises, is calling on hauliers to join a mass demonstration to lobby the Houses of Parliament in the next couple of months.

This follows the group's latest protest in which 38 tractive units crossed from Dover to Calais last weekend to fill up with cheap diesel before driving around the centre of Dover under police escort.

Trans-Action member Frank Stears of Stears haulage is happy with the impact of the protest: "Everyone came out of the shops to take a look and we also got some coverage from the local media," he says. "But I honestly don't know if anyone could change this Government's policies. I know quite a lot of us are seriously considering registering abroad.

"We've got a serious bloody problem here and nobody wants to know," Stears adds. "We don't even know what tax we are going to pay after the next Budget. We are going to lobby Parliament within the next couple of months and we should have the details within the next few weeks. It will be similar to the farmers' action."
