Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

There's some interesting small print on the facing page a list of improvements we've made to our LEV (Low Emission Vehicle) range. It's a list that delivers better economy and more power as well as more than meeting the higher standards of emission control legislation known as Euro 1 which will become effective in October 1993. Exhaust pollutants, for instance, are 50% below the required values. LEV vehicles are in fact well on the way to meeting the requirements of Euro 2, to be imposed later, and even environmental safeguards the legislators have yet to plan for.

At the same time, our new Mercedes range from 17-tonne rigids to 500bhp tractor units are more cost efficient for the operator.

There's more power and a better torque profile across the range thanks to comprehensive inter-cooling. And there's a new emphasis on muscular V6 engines that are lighter, more compact and more economical rated at 272, 313 and 340bhp. And new V8s, at 381, 435 and 503bhp, offer similarly improved performance.

The combustion cycle has been improved through turbocharging and inter-cooling, which is why pollutant emissions are so low. Aerodynamics are improved (reducing fuel consumption) and noise levels are lower inside the cab and out. Finally, our simplified servicing has been extended to 45,000km intervals for long-haul operators.

Mercedes research and development remains clearly focused on greater efficiency, improved economy and environmental protection. And the Low Emission Vehicle range from Mercedes is the proof.
