• Bensons Crisps has taken delivery of 21 Leyland Daf 45 Series 7.5-tonners to replace a fleet of 3,5-tonne Ford Transits. They were supplied on contract hire from Ryder and will be based at Newport, Gwent and Preston, Lancs. Custom bodies were built by J C Payne of Birmingham.
Green winner
• A Volvo FL10 tractor fitted with a Euro-1 low-emission engine produced the best fuel consumption for 38-tonner artics at the recent BTAC/IRTE trials. The Volvo returned 34.8lit/100km (8.12mpg).
