Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Seven drivers face committal proceedings before West Derbyshire Magistrates tomorrow (9 October) for allegedly falsifying tachographs while employed by local haulier Barlow and Hodgkinson.

The company, based in Biggin near Buxton, abandoned its general haulage business at the end of August to concentrate on its Foden parts supply business.

One of the drivers faces 34 charges of falsifying records; another faces 27.

Alleged irregularities were found during a fleet check by the Vehicle Inspectorate. Subsequent checks revealed evidence of daily driving and weekly rest period problems. Barlow and Hodgkinson operated a small fleet of powder tankers carrying products for Buxton Lime Industries. Several of the vehicles have been sold to competitor Hazelcrofts at Buxton, which employs some of the accused drivers on the same kind of work.

Drivers allegedly falsified tacho charts.
