Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• BRS is pulling out of commercial LGV driver training and streamlining its engineering operation in a bid to cut costs.

The NFC subsidiary is closing down its Birmingham, Bridgend and Leeds training centres. The Birmingham centre at Bronnford Lane received DOT approval for dangerous goods training just

two months ago. Commercial services director Theo De Pencier says BRS will concentrate on in-house training. Training staff will report to area managers at existing BRS sites.

"Although both Birmingham and Bridgend did outside training, it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to make money. The training fleet will be sorted through a number of locations," he says. There will be redundancies.

Outside training is being run down and should be wound up by Christmas although existing commitments will be honoured, says De Pencier.

EJ Phil Biddlecombe's position of BRS engineering and purchasing director is to be made redundant, in a move to rationalise the engineering division. Biddlecombe will move to another post either in BRS or parent company NFC.

Company engineers Dennis Taylor and John Perry will take over for the engineering and purchasing functions, which will remain centralised as part of the operations division under Andrew Callaghan.
