Hertz to finance a $2.3 billion (21.42 billion) management buyout at the world's biggest vehicle rental business.
Neither Ford nor Allegis, Hertz's present owners, have revealed the size of Ford's stake in the rental company, though Ford admits to investing around $1.2 billion in the deal.
• Profits at ARC in the year to June jumped almost 18% to £86 million, on turnover up by £69 million to 2819 million. The company's aggregates division, which has recently been the scene of industrial unrest from owner-drivers, achieved record profits of 251 million.
• Plans for a Europeanwide cellular radio system (CM 10-16 September) take another step forward in London next week when representatives from 13 countries meet to decide upon a timetable.
The service is due to be in operation by 1991 with coverage of capitals and main airports by 1993 and main transport routes by 1995.
