Lightweight Tailgate Lift D ECENTLY introduced by H. C. Pope Ltd. is a lightweight

version of the company's Hipope general-purpose tailgate lift. A feature of this new 800 lb.-capacity lift is a platform which can be folded downwards to facilitate dock loading. The platform, which has a 6 in, leading edge, measures 4 ft. by 2 ft. 7 in. The unit is powered either by a gearbox power take-off unit or by an electro-hydraulic battery set.

Fingertip control is provided by means of a control lever sited adjacent to the platform—this lever (of the dead-man'shandle type) returns to neutral automatically when released; the platform then stops immediately and holds its position. A safety relief valve is incorporated to protect the hydraulic system. The makers claim that this tailgate lift can be fitted to standard vehicles in one day.

Pneumatic Grinder A PNEUMATIC grinder, claimed to be the only one of its rl kind in the world with a right-angle drive which operates at 20,000 r.p.m. and develops 0-33 h.p., is announced by ATA (Grinding Processes) Ltd. Also being marketed by this concern is a locking abrasive rotational disc, specially developed for use with the grinder, but which can also be used with other drives. The pneumatic grinder is made to run at either 12,000 or 20,000 r.p.m. and the angle drive allows the operator a clear view of the work. The body is machined from solid stock: spindle runout is guaranteed to be within 0-0005 in.

The abrasive disc, called the Atadisc, has a novel nylon locking device, allowing the high rotational speeds of up to 20,000 r.p.m. with safety. Atadiscs arc claimed to have double the life of the adhesive-type disc and are available in coarse, medium and fine grades in a variety of sizes. A disc holder is also available.

Heavy-duty Flasher Unit A NEW heavy-duty flasher unit has been introduced by Park Bros. Ltd. This is designed to meet the requirements of the regulations which came into effect last month concerning direction indicators fitted to vehicles towing trailers or caravans. The flasher is of the dual-unit type, which will operate two OF three (if a trailer or caravan is being used) lamps on either side without affecting the rate of flash. When an additional warning light is fitted it clearly indicates the failure of a flasher lamp on either the vehicle or the trailer.

The unit has a rubber-cushioned fixing bracket to absorb excessive shocks and push-on type terminals; it can be used on either positive or negative earth systems. A wiring diagram is printed on the side of the can for convenience.

Two versions of the flasher are available—the PB. 741 (a 12V unit) and the PB. 742 (a 24V unit). Made by: Park Bros. Ltd., Bankfield Works, Ordnance Street, Blackburn, Lancs.

Price: £ 7s. (recommended retail).

N many types of goods vehicles, and particularly mediumsize vans, the warning light for flashing-direction indicators ■ adly placed, and often the fact that the indicators arc rating can be overlooked by the driver. An improved hod of warning is now available in the Atracta Audible her Monitor, which has just been introduced by Crypton ipment Ltd.

he Atracta is essentially a single-transistor, phase-shift audio llator and is connected through twin wires to the " P " final of the flasher unit and to earth. The transistor, ;tors and capacitors are mounted on a disc incorporating rinted circuit, and the whole equipment is contained in a tics case measuring if in, by 11 in. by in. When used a vehicle, the Atracta emits a high-pitched note as the ters operate and at the same time a bulb in the device nd two red windows operates intermittently. Another intage of the unit is that if the flashers on the vehicle fail, ning of this is given by the Atracta not coming into

he unit can be mounted permanently in the vehicle, although lagnetic disc is incorporated at the rear which allows ;t ie easily fixed to any steel component. It is suitable only use on vehicles with 12V systems.
