DELAY in the , settlement of L./operators' accounts for charges arising from the detention of vehicles hired to the road haulage organization of the M.O.W.T. has been engaging the attention of the Road Transport Section of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, which is not satisfied with the official reaction to a resolution passed by the Section.
This resolution, addressed to the pivisional Road Haulage Officer, was:— " That the Road Transport Section of he Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, having given consideration to, 'complaints of operators' accounts outstandingwith the Ministry of War Transport for charges arising from the detention of vehicles,' is concerned that similar detentions are still being experienced by casually hired operators. . " The Section ia strongly of opinion that operators should continue raising charges'for detentions within the pro

visions of the Ministry's Conditions of Carriage and urges that prompt attention be given by' the Area Road Haulage Officer to the outstanding accounts . with a view to their early settlement."
At the meeting of the Council Of the Chamber, Mr. G. J. Mullany said that the resolution had a bearing on economy in the working of road transport in the port, but the Section had been told that the roadhaulage organization could not deal with the Chamberin such matters. Later, that view was " watered down " somewhat and the Section. had been asked. to make another approach to the organization. '
It seems to be the official vii,w that if the operator has a case which should be looked into, he should take it up , With the Area .Road 'Ilahlage Officer, and' if a Settlement .eatinot. be reached then he should gO to the Divisional Road Haulage OffiCei.
