The contribution of no less than 17 steam wagons by a single motor-hiring company was one of the outstanding features of the C.M.U.A. parade. The Eastern Motor Wagon Company, Limited, of Bow, by whom these Foden.. machines were sent, has found a large and remunerative trade for its fleet, and many of the vehicles are booked to fulfil long contracts. This particular instance of successful application might very well suffice to convince haulage in-• terests that the time has more than come for action, but it. is only one of a number about which we shall be able to write at length in our forthcoming special issue, for we are able to state unreservedly that very great progress has been made towards standardisation of methods and rates in the tractor and steam-wagon branches of motor hiring, both of which are now accepted factors in the carrying world at large. Beyond these primary examples of heavy motorcars,. our supporters must remember that a daily-increasing number Of openings for other types is asserting itself. The traveller's brougham for jobbing service; the smaller van for tradesmen's deliveries; a range of vehicles for mail. contractors; the high-speed and large-capacity van for longdistance transportation of valuable loads; the powerful steamer for furniture-removal work; the public-service vehicle•in all its aspects—from the private cab to the doubledeek omnibus : all of these fall within the sphere of motor hiring, and all will receive their share of attention at our hands a week from to-day.
