Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Police have discovered a number of dangerous vehicles during the latest roadside check in the West Midlands.

This time officers pulled over 17 vehicles, nearly half of which were issued with immediate prohibition notices, after setting up checkpoints near Dudley.

A number of trucks were found to be in a perilous state; defects included bald tyres, no brake lights and a leaking air brake cylinder.

One driver may face court charged with driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition after officers found defects including a passenger door that would not close and an insecure battery. The Vehicle Inspectorate found that two owner-drivers did not have 0-licences.

The checks are part of an ongoing initiative called Operation Bulstrode in which police have been clamping down on operators running dangerous trucks.

Officers have already urged drivers and hauliers to keep their trucks in good order after 70% of those stopped at a previous check were found to be unsafe (CM30 Aug-5 Sept).

Further operations are planned In future.
