Ministers is expected to meet to discuss a proposal to raised the duty-free allowance for fuel in HGV fuel tanks to 600 litres.
The duty-free allowance for buses and coaches was increased from 200 litres to 600 litres on October I, but the EEC Council needs to give the go-ahead for a similar increase for lorries.
l'he proposed increase to 600 litres would cover lorries is use today — but, as a report from the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee points out, does not allow for developments in lorry design to incorporate larger tanks,
