Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new company has plans to set up a network of 14 American-style truck stops in the UK.

The first will be at West Thurrock, Essex close to the M25 and the Dartford Tunnel. Planning permission has already been granted and construction is scheduled to start early in the New Year. It should be open by the end of 1987. The 10 acre site incorporates a lorry park for 234 vehicles, a motel with 70 bedrooms, showers, restaurant, bar, telephones, telex and fax machine, television lounge, diesel pumps and two lorry washes.

Plans are in hand for other truck stops in the Midlands, North Midlands, Oxfordshire, the North West and the West Country. In all, 14 sites are planned to he in operation within three years.

The company behind the plans is Truck Stop (UK) a new company formed by a property development group, RFG, and the Tern Building Group. The company says it has been researching the project for three years and has modelled the sites on truck stops in the USA.

Truck Stop (UK) is approaching British and continental banks for finance — so far, the response from the continentals has been far more encouraging than that from the British.
