Common Market cash for the completion of the M20 and the A120 link to the East coast ports is being blocked by the European Commission, in BrusselIs. About P-54 million has been made available for infra-structure projects in all EEC countries, but the Commission has refused to put forward spending proposals until EEC Transport Ministers agree to a six year infrastructure programme costing about .2330 million. IIII Cummins Engine, the US-based diesel manufacturer, is to cut 3,000 jobs worldwide in a major rationalisation programme.

The company also intends to close a number of plants, including its components units at Darlington, Co Durham. Overall the plan is to reduce the workforce by 17% and manufacturing and distribution space by 19%.

A spokesman for Cummins in the UK said the reorganisation reflected worldwide overcapacity in diesel engine manufacture.

iii MAN Volkswagen informs us that it is the LT35 chassis cab that cannot be fitted with its turbo-charged engine, AU the other derivatives of the LT35 can be fitted with the 2.4litre 6 cylinder 75kW (102hp) turbocharged diesel unit, that has recently become available on the smaller models in the LT range.
