SPRAY AGAIN • Clarification is needed about the changes to the spray Legislation, as mentioned in Operators Handbook, October 25.

The dimensional change, increasing the ground clearance for the flaps, came into effect last month. In contrast, the amendment that requires the spray suppression material to increase its efficiency from 60 to 65%, does not take effect until May 1, 1987.

There is material on the market that exceeds the current 60% level but which falls short of the forthcoming 65% level. Operators who are using this material — or who fit it before May 1 to a new vehicle — are perfectly in order and will not have to replace it with higher specification material later on.

Copies of the amendments can be obtained from the sales department, British Standards Institution, Linford Wood, Milton Keynes MK14 6LE.
