Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• In your reports of roadworks I rarely see the M62 mentioned.

There has been major work going for the last few weeks over a three-mile section with restrictions on the West to East approach side for another two miles.

I am glad to say that due to excellent road management by a Mr Mangwell, site manager for the contractors, there has not been any hold up at all. Overnight traffic has been switched from one side of the motorway to the other, contra flow working — everything.

The cross-over in the central reservation is so long that no restrictions are imposed by this change of lanes — very smooth indeed.

HGVs are now allowed in the outer of the two lanes, a

very wise choice and very successful traffic management_ Other motorway contractors would do well to come to the Iv162 to see how it is done!

A recent article in Commercial Motor mentioned the new variable message signs on the M62. They are hopeless! Sited as they are they are naturally obstructed by any vehicle overtaken by

users of the middle and outer lanes. The signs cannot be seen until one is right up to them, and the messages are too long to be read when one is close. They would be much more practical placed overhead on the gantries already in situ.

Make a point of having a look at the M62 roadworks — you will be impressed: when you see the information signs you will be dismayed!
