Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to read in your Comment column (CM 18 October) that there is a requirement for a separate commercial show with just trade visitors.

Such a show does in fact exist — the annual IRTE organised Display at Solihull. This year was our largest Display ever, with all the major manufacturers displaying their products, including some of the trailer and body builders you mention were absent from the Motor Show. Over 200 participants were on display this year.

As an Institute not primarily concerned with making vast commercial profits out of our show, we are frequently reminded by our Display participants that this is the show for them. In a congenial atmosphere they are able to display their products and discuss business with genuine customers viz those people concerned with buying their vehicles, components and associated systems. Most claim to do more business and make more commercial contacts over the two days at Solihull than over the whole week and a half at the NEC.

We are continually refining our Solihull Display in line with exhibitors' wishes and it is our impression that their needs are being well looked after — but there is always scope for expansion (not necessarily at Solihull) and we feel confident of the continuing support of the industry. Readers reactions would be welcomed.
