AS the result of the decision of the Minister of Transport on the appeals of Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., and the Southern Railway Co., there will be no more single tickets issued on seasonal express services from the coast to London. The South Eastern Traffic Commissioners granted a concession enabling single tickets to be issued on these services if they were purchased by post from London,.direct from the operator, and were marked, prior to issue, with the date of availability.

George Ewer and Co., Ltd., Surrey Motors, Ltd., Valliant Direct Coaches, Ltd., and "United Service Transport Co., Ltd., appealed for greater freedom, but the Southdown and Southern Railway companies lodged cross appeals, which have succeeded. The other appeals have been dismissed. The services concerned are those from London to Eastbourne, Brighton, Portsmouth, Southsea„ Worthing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Hastings, and Bournemouth. The hearing occupied 10 days.

LYTHAM DEAL DEFERRED.

BIACKPOOL'S offer to take over Lytham St. Annes transport undertaking has been deferred for the time being, following a meeting of the Lytham St. Annes Town Council, when it was decided that there should be further negotiations between the two boroughs with a view to co-ordination of services.

BUSES KILL RAILWAY BRANCH.

THE abandonment of what once was an important branch railway line has been brought about by the popularity of the bus services to Pontypridd. The Great Western.Railway Co. is now dismantling the PontypriddNelson branch line, which was abandoned "temporarily," some time ago, because it was unremunerative.
